Haiz...
Thinking of that CARE talk really makes me furious...
I still have 3 weeks more to complete the task with only one other group member with two more sleeping partners...
Although the school I am studying in has three types of student leaders...
1) The Student counsellors (whatever spelling it is)
2) The Peer leaders
3) The CCA leaders
Since my CARE talk is on leadership...
I need to start analysing the situation...
the CARE talk is to be done by a group of student leaders each week...
and my group is of course...
with four student leaders...
to be exact, four CCA leaders...
each from different CCAs...
NPCC, NCC, Badminton and Boys' Brigade
So if I have 2 sleeping partners in my group...
that means that 2 student leaders are actually not doing their job as a leader...
so does that mean that leadership is just lazing around and let others do the job?
Sometimes I do hear from people that leaders serve people...
to gain the respect of others...
but to me...
I think that leaders should also be called servants...
they simply do things for the people...
and for what?
To gain the respect of the people...
but what do they people do?
Leaders can abuse power...
but that does not mean that the people cannot abuse their ability...
If you try to get other people's trust and respect...
the people will simply just use that opportunity to make you go in circles...
just by making you do everything for them just to give you some respect...
but usually you will not get it...
saying it the crude way...
they just simply "play" and "throw away"...
So I always had this thought in my head even when leading my CCA members...
instead of doing everything for them...
I make them do things for themselves...
As I am in a uniform group...
I think it is better to say things in the uniform group sectors...
Firstly, what I see the seniors in the other uniform group do in teaching their CCA members is only punishing and punishing...
what is the main purpose...
the more you punish them...
the more they want to get back at you...
they might first start by showing you they respect you...
but you might not know what they would say behind your back..
that is what happened to me a few months back..
until I took a different approach...
Firstly...
I don't believe in punishments now...
unless the situation is really bad.
Secondly...
I try to "demote" myself till I am just the same as my juniors...
not as a leader...
but as a friend...
Instead of making them do punishments...
I ask them questions for them to identify their mistakes...
so that they will know what not to do...
I do not scold them or shout at them if they don't listen...
I just simply let them waster their own time before they quieten down.
People encourage at the start...
I encourage in the end...
People ask their juniors to do the right thing...
I challenge my juniors to prove to me whether they know what is right...
When people see that one junior is getting very proud...
they become biased and try to bring him/her to power...
When I see my junior getting too proud...
I try to make him feel lousy...
the only intention is for him to be able to work as a team...
People use their authority against their juniors...
while I let my juniors have the authority they want... only if they can prove to me they deserve it...
People start by gaining the respect of their juniors..
I start by making them respect me...
Once they start respecting me...
there is no way they can abuse their ability of me trying to respect them.
People only treat those that are good to them well...
But I choose to treat my juniors who are hated by others well...
If he ever feels left out...
he will be left out...
But nevertheless...
I am still searching for more wierd ways to make my juniors learn better...
So I just feel that sometimes we take leadership the wrong way...
Is it all about the respect?
Is it all about getting back at the leaders that once abused power on you?
Is it all about having everyone to do as they are told?
Is it all about throwing responsibilities to others?
And so I remember what my cousin wrote in her MSN nick last time...
"A good captian goes down with his ship"
that is the only thing I agree in a good leader...
And I remember 1 teacher once said this to the student leaders...
"We have the quantity but we don't have the quality"
I forgot her name...
but I know she teaches math...
I really agree with this statement...
if we do not have the quality leader...
what is the use of having the leaders which are the black sheeps...
who tarnish the nice title of leaders?
But something thing I always love to say...
A leader is just a title...
just to make others happy...
like a road sweeper who was once called road sweeper...
but now called uncle or aunty...
why?
one thing is repect...
but another is that the way they are being called...
the title...
makes them feel good and thus...
work better...
I wonder if you agree with what I say...
As I say...
not everything I say is right...
they are all infrences...
nothing more than that... =)
